All Men Need a Mission...
Here's three simple steps a man can take to find his true purpose or passion.
And men need purpose.
It’s ingrained in the DNA of man. ever since cavemen were chasing saber-tooth tigers.Unfortunately, so many men are unaware of their purpose and work jobs they hate for another man’s dream.
They are not what or where they want to be.
And with their purpose unfulfilled, they seek fulfillment through other methods far less rewarding, including alcohol, drugs, hobbies, clubs, bars, games, etc.
Yet, the highs of such activities fade away with each new morning and must be chased again and again.
And it’s because...
Men were made to have a mission that matters.
Here’s why so many miss this:.
They do not know who they are.
They misunderstand the role of a man.
Their obligations outweigh their desires.
They listen to society's norms as guidance.
But with three simple steps, a man can counter all of the above. Here’s how...
Here’s how to find your purpose, step by step:
Step 1: Ask yourself, “Am I aware of my environment and identity?”
One of the first steps to knowing purpose is self-awareness. If a man isn’t aware of his environment or his identity, how can he know what he wants?
What do you tell yourself daily?
What thoughts do you repeat?
What people do you listen to?
What messages do you follow?
What messages do you resonate with?
Where are you now versus where you want to be?
It’s all about self-awareness.
Becoming aware means listening to and recognizing the daily affirmations, messages, and surroundings that have built your present identity/life.
In the words of Lewis Carroll, “If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there.”
It starts with self-awareness.
Step 2: Let It All Go and Find Just One Moment
If you are now aware of who you are, it logically makes sense that you built who you are through thought, action, and experience.
So, why can’t you do it again? Why can’t you build a new identity?
Too much? Ok, why can’t you at least imagine a new identity?
What would that take?
Well, probably letting go of any burdens, habits, negative thoughts, to-do's, and obligations for sure.
Try it for just 5 minutes. Let go of who you think you are and all that holds you back.
Money needs, negative thoughts, family obligations, career dislikes, etc.—let it all go.
Just put it aside for 5 minutes.
Now, think of a time in your life when you felt exhilaration and joy beyond anything you ever felt before.
A moment of joy, excitement, accomplishment, and satisfaction.
Where were you?
Who were you with?
Can you see it?
What caused this moment?
Was it an achievement? Was it a conversation? Was it a realization?
What thoughts, people, and events led up to this moment?
Are you there?
Now, see if you can find two more moments like this.
Hold on to those thoughts or journal those experiences.
Step 3: What, How, and Who
Now we are going to take those moments of satisfaction from the previous step and ask three questions for each:
What about this moment did I enjoy that made me feel alive?
How could I do this every day to earn an income or for fun?
Who do I know who is already doing this that I could talk to?
Here’s the thing, in most cases, those moments that truly provided happiness or joy are tied to some form of event.
That event is made up of thoughts, actions, and people...No matter what it was.
It means that these moments or memories are full of opportunities for you to explore and use to further your passion.
Perhaps you will build a business focused on providing the same experience to others.
Perhaps you work at a company focused on such events or moments.
Perhaps you simply join or start a meetup or community that finds enjoyment in similar events.
Perhaps you will learn more about the experience and create a hobby or side hustle.
Nothing is out of scope.
Just ask what, how, and who. This is how we start putting a plan around a purpose of interest.
Molding the clay so to speak.
Journal the exercise above and imagine the possibilities. Ask "What if I could...". See where it goes...
